COVID-19 Variants
The FDA has indicated that the sustained increase in SARS-CoV-2 viral variants in the United States that are resistant to bamlanivimab administered alone, the U.S. Government, in coordination with Eli Lilly and Company, stopped the distribution of bamlanivimab alone on March 24, 2021.  Using an alternative authorized monoclonal antibody therapy, such as bamlanivimab and etesevimab together with REGEN-COV, may reduce the risk of treatment failure should a patient be infected with a SARS-CoV-2 viral variant that is resistant to bamlanivimab alone. The FDA recently updated the following:
Authorized Fact Sheet for Healthcare Providers Regarding Emergency Use of bamlanivimab
Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) 90 - bamlanivimab
Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) 91 – REGEN-COV
Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) 94 - bamlanivimab and etesevimab administered in combination
