As part of the eMedicare initiative to modernize and personalize your experiences with Medicare, and to Medicare recipients find information about health care providers and services, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is making improvements to its Medicare.gov website. Care Compare on Medicare.gov will standardize 8-existing provider comparison sites in an effort to offer users a more streamlined compare experience, improving their ability to find information about doctors, hospitals, nursing homes, and other healthcare services.

Trump Administration Has Issued More Than $15 Million in Fines to Nursing Homes During COVID-19 Pandemic

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has announced that CMS enforcement action against nursing homes has tripled compared to last year, with penalties issued to more than 3,400 nursing homes for non-compliance with infection control requirements and failure to report coronavirus during the public health emergency.

August 10 New Communication Tool
A two-way communication tool between dialysis and long-term care facilities to assist in facilitating communication regarding patient’s COVID-19 status has been developed as a result of several healthcare providers in the Pittsburgh area coming together to address COVID issues.

Quality Insights Releases New Resource: Engaging Patients in a Virtual Environment for QAPI with Technology Tools & Resources for Hosting QAPI in a Virtual Environment Accessible by Patients

This resource was developed by Quality Insights Renal Network 5 to assist facilities with the development, implementation, maintenance, and evaluation of an effective, data-driven, quality assessment and performance improvement (QAPI) program with participation by professional members of the interdisciplinary team (IDT), as required by the ESRD Conditions for Coverage.

ESRD NCC Releases Mental Health Toolkit

This toolkit can be used by any renal professional including the ESRD Networks, dialysis providers, and transplant programs. It was developed in conjunction with input and feedback from ESRD Network professionals and patient subject matter experts. The hope is that by informing themselves, sharing the resources, and managing their own well-being they can make a difference in the lives of the ESRD patients and families they serve. It is not intended to be given directly to patients, but instead by professionals to use in their work.

DHHS Renews Public Health Emergency Declaration for COVID-19

Effective July 25, 2020, the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) has extended their public health emergency declaration an additional 90 days, which is until October 23, 2020, unless Secretary Azar terminates it earlier. This renewal extends the waivers and flexibilities previously issued by DHHS for healthcare providers in response to COVID-19.
